Community Social Events

This has always been the most important part of fostering the community spirit of the area. From the teenage involvement in the Halloween Walk to weekly activities with friends.
At the Adult stage, while social may become further apart they only desired more where the diaspora from all over the world have ensured that their summer visit home coincides with a social to meet old friends and relive old stories of adventures over the years.

Ceili at the Crossroad

The award-winning mid-summer crossroads ceili is held on the third Saturday in July where traditional music and dancing take over as the valley is closed to modern traffic. Young and old meet, dance and chat to all hours and when darkness falls retire to the community centre till early hours the next morning. This social has been highly successful winning the SDCC Gradam Cultúr agus Oidhreacht na hÉireann award for Community groups working to promote the Irish language, Irish culture, local history or local heritage.

Harvest Ball

This social evening is held in the Autumn when the evenings are getting darker to lift everybody’s spirits where an evening of musical entertainment is provided and all chat and exchange stories of the summer that has passed.
